Set up from your assistant
You can set a workspace up entirely in a conversation with your assistant, once it is connected. The assistant asks Tandem what is left and does each step for you, or hands you a link when a step needs a browser: Slack, GitHub and payment sign you in with those services themselves.
A walk, in words
Section titled “A walk, in words”Say what you want; the assistant does the rest. A typical exchange:
You: Set up a Tandem workspace for my company, call it acme, engineering team.
Assistant: Created
acme. It seats an engineering team. Left to do: connect Slack (link), connect the code (link), connect the issue tracker, choose the first task, model keys, and the plan (link). Shall we connect Linear? You: Yes, here is my Linear key: lin_api_…
Assistant: Linear is connected. The CEO will read your recent issues, ask you at most three questions and put up the first week as a plan. After that, may the team start on further work by itself, or should it ask you first?
You: It may start by itself.
Assistant: Done. Two steps need your browser: add Tandem to Slack at …, and choose a plan at …. When those are done the workspace builds itself in a few minutes.
What each step maps to
Section titled “What each step maps to”| Step | From the assistant | In a browser |
|---|---|---|
| Name and team | create_workspace |
|
| Slack | the link setup gives |
|
| Code (GitHub) | the link setup gives |
|
| Linear | connect_linear with your API key |
|
| Jira | the link setup gives |
|
| How the team goes on | set_work_gate |
|
| Model keys | set_model_key |
|
| Plan and payment | the link setup gives |
setup always says where the walk stands: what is done, what the assistant can do, and what you do at which address. Ask for it whenever you come back.
A word on keys
Section titled “A word on keys”A Linear key or a model key you paste into a conversation goes through your assistant’s provider to Tandem. Tandem checks it with its own provider and keeps it sealed; it reaches only your workspace. If you would rather not paste a key into a chat, the same step is on the workspace’s page in the portal.
