Model keys

The team’s agents run on language models. There are two ways to pay for that:

• Tandem’s models. The workspace gets a key of its own with a monthly budget on Tandem’s model gateway, and you need nothing else.
• Your own key. Bring a key from Anthropic, OpenRouter, OpenAI, xAI or Google, or sign in with a Claude subscription. Tandem checks the key with its provider before keeping it, and the team runs on it from then on. The key is sealed at rest and reaches only your own workspace.

The kinds, as set_model_key names them: anthropic_oauth (a Claude subscription sign-in), anthropic, openrouter, openai, xai, google. A refused key is refused with the provider’s reason and nothing is kept.

Set it during the walk, later from the workspace’s Models page, or from your assistant with set_model_key. Switching back to Tandem’s models drops your key.
